Demonumenta

Who are we choosing to represent us? In São Paulo, social movements criticize monuments which praise colonialists, slaveholders and genociders, while also demanding acknowledgment of underrepresented groups, such as black and indigenous people.

Demonumenta proposes a debate about the coloniality still present today at public institutions. On the 100 years of the Modern Art Week in Brazil, the group discussed several controversial monuments and registered this in an authoral web page.

PROCESS

The 3D modeling group was in charge of recreating lowpoly models of important and controversial statues located in São Paulo. Research was done in photogrammetry to help recreate the monuments as 3D models and point clouds.
We later used GeoSampa's LiDAR scanning library to get point clouds from the city of São Paulo at the surroundings of the monuments, later joining them with the 3D models.
The final results were hosted on SketchFab so they could be shared on Demonumenta's page.
